Thomas J. McIntosh has been associated with the firm since 1967, as an employee, a shareholder, and currently, as Of Counsel.
Before Mr. McIntosh partially retired and became Of Counsel, he concentrated his practice on business/corporate law, trust administration, estate planning, probate, and tax planning and tax administration
Business/Corporate Law:
Mr. McIntosh advises individuals and businesses in all aspects of business corporate law, including entity selection/formation, acquisitions, sales and reorganizations, as well as taxation.
Estate Planning and Probate Law:
Mr. McIntosh regularly counsels the firm and individuals on all aspects of estate planning, with particular focus on the preparation of wills, living trusts, durable powers of attorney, and advance health directives. Mr. McIntosh also advises on trust administration and probate matters.
Personal and Educational Background:
Mr. McIntosh was born on January 19, 1930, in San Gabriel, California. Upon graduation from high school Mr. McIntosh joined the California National Guard as a private. His unit was called to active duty in response to the Korean War, and while on active duty he rose to the rank of first lieutenant. In Korea, Mr. McIntosh served on the front lines with the 25th Infantry Division as an artillery forward observer.
Upon completion of his duties in the United States Army, Mr. McIntosh attended Chico State College. Upon graduation, he assumed a position in the Los Angeles, California office of Lybrand, Ross Bros., and Montgomery, Certified Public Accountants, an international accounting firm, now PricewaterhouseCoopers (“PwC”).
At PwC, Mr. McIntosh worked on the audit staff, and the tax staff. He received his Certified Public Accountant’s license in 1957.
In 1963, Mr. McIntosh enrolled in Hastings College of the Law. He graduated in 1966, and accepted interim employment with PwC, in its San Francisco, California, office as a Tax Manager.
In 1967, Mr. McIntosh joined the firm.
In addition to his law practice, Mr. McIntosh has served as a judge pro-tem for the Berkeley-Albany Municipal Court. Mr. McIntosh also serves as both a director and officer of several tax-exempt foundations, and is active in the Boy Scouts of America as a troop leader. In this regard, he is a holder of the Silver Beaver Award, the highest award conferred by a Boy Scout Council upon an adult for service to community and youth. He is also a holder of the National God & Youth Award, an award conferred upon adults by the National Association of Presbyterian Scouters, in conjunction with the National Council of the Boy Scouts of America, for service to church, community, and youth.
His non-professional interests include gardening, scouting, backpacking, canoeing, and cycling. - BACK
